Naya Rivera, best known as “Santana Lopez” on the hit musical comedy-drama “Glee” which aired for six seasons, tragically died last week after disappearing on Lake Piru in southern California.
Authorities say Rivera, aged 33 and a mother of a 4-year-old “mustered enough energy to get her son back on to the boat, but not enough to save herself” after finding her body on Monday, according to CNN.
Rivera’s fellow cast members gathered on the lake’s shores where her body was found to pay tribute to their fallen castmate. The day also marked the seventh year anniversary of another former television compatriot Cory Monteith who died of drug toxicity.
This photo of the cast of #Glee gathering together at Lake Piru today where #NayaRivera’s body was found is incredibly powerful — especially when you consider today is the 7 year anniversary of Cory Monteith’s death. I’m a mess. pic.twitter.com/RhY9hUb78E

“I’m not religious by any means, but you’d be hard-pressed to convince me that Cory didn’t help find our girl today,” wrote former Glee cast member Kevin McHale on Twitter who played Artie Abrams on the show. “These 2, in many ways, were the male and female versions of one another. So nice, cared deeply, were stupidly talented, the most fun, and really really good people.”
