Nancy Pelosi is not only power-hungry but she’s ignorant of how the Constitution works. As Speaker of the House, she holds some power, not all of it. She doesn’t want Trump to choose the replacement for Ruth Bader Ginsburg, so she’s doing everything she can to delay the Senate’s confirmation. The decision has nothing to do with the House, so she’s out of the equation.
So, she’s doing what she can: threatening impeachment. The problem is, there are no grounds for Trump’s impeachment and everyone knows it.
She likes to threaten her fellow Congressmen, though. She has said that Democrats will “use every arrow in our quiver” as a way of blocking the nominee. Mind you, she doesn’t even know who the nominee at this point – but if it were picked by Trump and confirmed by the Republican Senate, she doesn’t care.

Kevin McCarthy, House Minority Leader, is prepared to stand up to her. He has threatened that he’ll introduce a motion to oust Pelosi as the Speaker of the House if she tries for a second round of impeachment charges. He told reporters, “I think there will be a move on the floor to no longer have the question of her being Speaker. She may think she has a quiver — we do too.”
To keep the Supreme Court at eight judges instead of nine is not only irresponsible, it’s selfish. The rules in the US Constitution state that the president is responsible for nominating while the Senate confirms. Pelosi is on the wrong side of Congress if she wants to have a say in the whole ordeal. The reality is that the Senate is Republican – and it has been Republican for quite a few years. So, the nominee to the SCOTUS will be Conservative.
Pelosi is starting to become more and more like a toddler, having a temper tantrum when she doesn’t get her way. She can’t threaten impeachment every time she doesn’t like that the Constitution gives Trump and the Senate power to do something that she doesn’t agree with. Luckily, there are Representatives like McCarthy who is willing to not only stand up to her but give her a firm dose of reality.
The biggest problem is that Pelosi is operating on a lot of assumptions – Trump will lose the election AND the Senate will swap to a Democratic lead. As more and more Americans question whether Biden is mentally capable of doing the job and as Democratic-led cities continue to riot, the idea of a Democratic majority anywhere is looking slimmer and slimmer.
Further, Trump is still the president until mid-January. This means that she’s asking for the SCOTUS nominee to be put on hold for nearly four months – and that’s a significant amount of time.
There’s another reason for needing nine members of the Supreme Court. If there are problems with the election, such as interference, cheating, or questions about mail-in ballots, it’ll be necessary to have all of the seats filled.
Pelosi simply assumes that everyone is just as corrupt as she is. Judges are judges because of their ability to see both sides of the situation. They can be nonpartisan. While they may have an innate leaning toward one side or the other, they’re capable of seeing what’s in the law. Whomever Trump nominates would still have to be collaborated by the Senate. There aren’t going to be over 50 people who vote solely because Trump told them to. They’re also not going to put a nominee in who they don’t think is capable.
McCarthy is right to threaten Pelosi just as Pelosi has threatened the Senate. Trump needs to move forward to fill the empty seat. It is within his right as president, and he’s doing his job to ensure that the people of the United States have a fully stocked Supreme Court in the event that there’s a major issue that needs a ruling.
