Patricia Heaton is a Hollywood rarity. She’s a conservative actress who does not allow her viewpoints to be crowded out by the liberals who are too busy patting themselves on the back for reciting the same tired opinions. Heaton is also pro-life, which does not sit well with a lot of people. Now, she is warning her Twitter followers about the upcoming attack on Christians.
“Friends, be prepared for social media to be filled with an onslaught of arrogant pronouncements based on breathtaking ignorance of religion in general, Christianity specifically and Catholicism in particularly by people who wouldn’t recognize God if He bit them on the bum,” she tweeted. While Heaton was not willing to go into specifics, we have an idea of what she is talking about.
The death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has led to a sizable amount of speculation about potential nominees to succeed her. Trump is looking for a Christian judge and the detractors have already started to criticize him. Heaton even pointed out a Newsweek article that was written about Judge Amy Coney Barrett, trashing all of her personal beliefs.
“The @Newsweek article never mentions that families in People of Praise move into low income or troubled neighborhoods with their kids and work to improve the lives of their neighbors (info which is available on their website),” Heaton reminded people. This is the information that does not make its way to the public because the mainstream media has turned its back on religion.

Amy Coney Barrett works tirelessly to improve the lives of others. She works with the aforementioned People of Praise group and they are dedicated to service. A quick look at their website shows how committed they are to helping others. People of Praise “is a community where Christians from diverse church backgrounds can share life, work, prayer, and mission while still maintaining active membership in their local congregations.”
In other words, how can Barrett possibly be a member of such an organization? She’s got a lot of nerve! It’s easy to see why Heaton and other people who think as she does are upset. There are a number of activists who like to draw comparisons that are not necessary or insightful when it comes to these sorts of organizations.
Anyone who has watched the Netflix series The Handmaid’s Tale has probably heard about the connection between this show and People of Praise. The show is set in near-future New England, where women have been forced into sexual bondage in order to repopulate a world that is devastated by declining birth rates and environmental disasters. Feminists love it because the women are able to rise up against the patriarchy.
It’s based on a book by Canadian author Margaret Atwood. Writers from Newsweek, Reuters, and Refinery29 have written stories about the connection between the patriarchal group on the show and People of Praise. “Handmaid’s Tale? U.S. Supreme Court candidate’s religious community under scrutiny” reads one Reuters tweet.
Newsweek has claimed that Judge Barrett “is affiliated with a type of Christian religious group that served as inspiration for Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel, The Handmaid’s Tale” and the New York Times has also made their own speculations. Newsweek may have issued an apology after the fact but it does not change the fact that they have already started this narrative. The snowball is rolling down the hill and there is little that can be done now.
Barrett is the likely Trump choice. She’s already been vetted by the United States Senate and if the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman is willing to do so? A hearing could take place very soon. Her appointment to the court would be a shot across the bow of the Democrats. A qualified conservative who is not going to allow themselves to be bullied? This is definitely one of the worst nightmares that the left could have ever conjured up.
