It was recently revealed that Attorney General Merrick Garland directed the FBI to investigate parents protesting school boards and called it “domestic terrorism” after receiving a single request from the National School Board Association (NSBA). The NSBA insisted that parents were becoming aggressively violent at school board meetings and called on the Department of Justice to label them as “domestic terrorists.” Parents at school board meetings were fighting against draconian mask mandates, transgender policies, and the indoctrination of Critical Race Theory.
Since then, critics have lashed out at the NSBA for creating a more political divide between school unions and parents. Some school board officials even note that they were unaware of the NSBA letter and do not support the language being used to describe parents as “domestic terrorists.” Because of the letter, AG Garland had even instructed the FBI to form a task force to address the threats against school officials.
Board member John Halkias criticized the NSBA letter in an email, adding how they should’ve been consulted before it was sent out publicly, and no less to the President of the United States and National Press. He said he agrees that the letter took a stance that went well beyond what most school boards consider to be “reasonable” and that the terms they used were extreme. Halkias goes on to say that many school unions would not have requested action by the Federal government in such matters.
The NSBA has come out to apologize for the letter they sent to President Joe Biden calling parents and protesters “domestic terrorists” and said that there was “no justification” in some of the language they used.

“On behalf of the NSBA, we regret and apologize for the letter. To be clear, the safety of school board members, other public school officials and educators, and students is our top priority, and there remains important work to be done on this issue. However, there was no justification for some of the language included in the letter. We should have had a better process in place to allow for some consultation on the communication of this significance,” the NSBA wrote.
They went on to say that they not only value the work of local school boards within the communities, but also the voices of parents who should “continue to be heard when it comes to decisions about their children’s education, health, and safety.”
That has not been the case for several parents fighting against left-leaning mandates, including one parent at Loudoun County Public Schools who claimed that his daughter had been raped by a boy in a school bathroom over the transgender mandate. Interim superintendent Scott Ziegler went on to claim that the “predator transgender student does not exist,” even though one of his older emails contradicts that statement. The superintendent at the school even sent an email alerting the school board of an alleged assault on the exact same day.
“The purpose of this email is to provide you with information regarding an incident that occurred at Stone Bridge HS. This afternoon a female student alleged that a male student sexually assaulted her in the restroom,” Superintendent Scott Ziegler said in the email.
Parents have been keeping pressure on school board officials and fighting against the radical mandates making their way into the classroom. The school boards and Department of Justice seem more alarmed about the way parents respond than any of the assaults or health risks placed on students. This is just proof that school superintendents will lie to the public to get support on their agenda as much as they can. Until they are caught and have to walk back their language.
