During an appearance on MSNBC Monday, Hawaii Democrat Sen. Mazie Hirono charged President Donald Trump voters with being white supremacists.
“We should be dealing with the racism that is in our country to which the president speaks to,” Hirono said. “He has a base of supporters who are very anti-immigrant and white supremacist. That’s a lot of his base and that’s who he speaks to.”

Hirono’s comments echo the sentiment issued four years ago by 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, when she chastised “half” of Trump’s supporters as a “basket of deplorables.”
“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables,” Clinton said at a Manhattan fundraiser. “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic – you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that.”
