President Joe Biden made it evidently clear in his address to Congress that he will make it a tough four years on gun owners and do much more than simply violate the Second Amendment. He addressed the nation and about 100 members of Congress to talk about the policies he plans to pursue during his presidency.
He made multiple claims about the alleged effectiveness of the “assault weapons” ban, stumbled through statements that no amendment to the Constitution is “absolute,” and even made claims that there were “certain weapons” average Americans could not own. Among the issues President Biden talked about, he is also expected to repeal his calls for Congress to pass two House bills that would restrict background checks for gun buyers and reinstate a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. He even claimed that a ban on assault weapons lowered gun crime in the 1990s.
“We need a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines again. Don’t tell me it can’t be done. We’ve done it before…and it worked,” Biden said, referencing the ban he helped pass in the 1990s.
A recent report from the Department of Justice’s National Institute of Justice indicates that there was no reduction in gun crime that could be credited to the ban itself and that such firearms were rarely used in gun crimes before the ban. “There has been no discernible reduction in the lethality and injuriousness of gun violence,” one researcher says. Another piece of research, the FBI Uniform Crime Report, also cites that more people were killed in 2017 with hammers and clubs than with rifles of any kind.
Developing Story with Dr. Ron Paul Reveals #1 Step Every American Needs to Take. Find Out More
The banning of semi-automatic firearms and assault weapons has nothing to do with safety, but a fundamental hatred of the Second Amendment. He wants to restrict the number of guns an American can buy per month and strip a person of their gun rights if they are having issues with finances.
He has also announced six executive actions to crack down on “ghost guns” or untraceable weapons that can be purchased online. But Democrats are pushing the narrative that ghost guns are affiliated with criminals, even though they usually purchase guns illegally instead of making ones from scratch. Americans have a history of building their own guns. By banning the online sale of guns and gun parts, President Biden is only stripping the rights of law-abiding citizens. Criminals just break the law anyway.
President Biden made comments directly to gun owners and hunters during his speech by saying there’s no possible justification for having 100 rounds in a weapon. He then mocked law-abiding gun owners and asked, “What, do you think deer are wearing Kevlar vests?” Twitter critics immediately corrected his sarcastic questioning.
“Biden’s line about deer wearing kevlar vests is funny because the AR-15 fires a cartridge (5.56) that is much less powerful than cartridges used to hunt deer (.308, 6.5 Creedmoor, etc). It’s also funny because we don’t care. The 2nd Amendment is about self-defense, not hunting,” The Latino Rifle Association wrote.
Though none of what Biden said during his speech was true, it’s clear that gun violence prevention remains a top priority to the Biden Administration. Even though President Biden’s son Hunter illegally obtained a firearm by falsely claiming on a background check form that he was not a drug addict, he’ll keep pushing and taunting gun owners into a corner. President Biden’s entire vision for America is just more government control and less freedom for law-abiding Americans.
