Former President Donald Trump recently told the United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) to stop paying their union dues and vote Biden out of office, despite endorsing him in the 2020 presidential election. This comes after Biden issued an executive order to cancel the Keystone XL Pipeline’s construction, which canceled 1,000 union jobs and 10,400 construction jobs. The Canadian Company TC energy recently announced that they would be terminating the project.
“The union representing the great workers building the Keystone XL Pipeline endorsed Biden. Now, their [the UA’s] workers have no jobs and the pipeline, which was well under construction (like the Southern Border Wall), has been shut down, with thousands of jobs lost and the company announcing yesterday that they are ‘permanently pulling out,’” Trump said.
Mark McManus, the UA’s president, criticized the Biden Administration for putting “thousands of union workers out of work” and choosing to listen to the voices of fringe activists rather than hardworking American union members.
“Let me be very clear: When built with union labor by the men and women of the United Association, pipelines like Keystone XL remain the safest and most efficient modes of energy transportation in the world. Sadly, the Biden Administration has now put thousands of union workers out of work. For the average American family, it means energy costs will go up and communities will no longer see the local investments that come with pipeline construction,” McManus said.

President of the North American Building Trades Union Sean McGarvey also called on the Biden Administration for destroying union jobs, adding that he is “deeply disappointed” on the President’s first official day in office. Other critics have also bashed the President for pandering to environmental extremists than the thousands of hard-working union members who will lose good-paying, middle-class family-supporting jobs.
The Obama Administration previously signed a labor agreement with four U.S unions, which began under Trump. The unions included: the Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA), the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the International Union of Operating Engineers, and the United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters. Trump pointed out how three out of four of these unions endorsed the Biden-Harris presidential ticket in the 2020 elections, the same administration that put thousands of their workers out of jobs.
And now, Al Gore has proposed canceling another pipeline to President Biden – the Byhalia pipeline, which would stretch from Memphis to Marshall County, Mississippi. He called the pipeline a “reckless, racist, ripoff.” Gore said it would be routed through some of Memphis’s black neighborhoods and could affect a nearby drinking-water well owned by a local utility. He urged Biden to kill off the project as part of his infrastructure plan and focus on key climate-change initiatives rather than a bipartisan infrastructure deal.
The Byhalia Pipeline would create over 500 jobs and pump more than $60 million into the economy during construction. But according to Al Gore, the pipeline is “racist.” And just like the problems with the Keystone XL pipeline, the radical left doesn’t like fossil fuels. The more barriers they can throw up from the communities that profit from the pipelines, the better. That’s not fighting climate change or racism, it’s race-baiting and fact-free fear-mongering.
