A Lesson From Epstein

NEW YORK, NY – JUNE 23: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) campaigns on June 23, 2020 in the Bronx borough of New York City. Ocasio-Cortez is running for re-election in the 14th congressional district against Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, a former CNBC anchor. (Photo by Stephanie Keith/Getty Images)

The claims made by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have always been absurd, but the latest one from freshman Congresswoman about New York City’s rising violent crime rate have been the most absurd yet.

“Maybe this has to do with the fact that people aren’t paying their rent and are scared to pay their rent and so they go out, and they need to feed their child and they don’t have money so … they feel like they either need to shoplift some bread or go hungry,” Ocasio-Cortez said during a virtual town hall meeting last Thursday.

Mind you, she is one of the advisers to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign and her claims have even influenced Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) to “shift” $1 billion in funding away from the NYPD.

Ocasio-Cortez argues that her moral system has connected the dots between poverty and crime. She attacks the Republican Party for not “experiencing” or “seeing” the issues first hand, but claims it exists because she has “experienced” poverty herself. Mind you, she grew up in Yorktown Heights, a town that has the average household wealth of $1.2 million, contradicting the “Bronx hood” upbringing she’s selling. She grew up in a lovely home in the area before going off to Ivy League Brown University.

Conservative radio talk show host Dana Loesch pushed back, dropping some facts on Ocasio-Cortez via Twitter for the real reasons behind the crime spike in NYC and growing up in poverty. “Crime is up because you and others pushed for a reduction in both policing and penalties. Also, whenever you want to talk about poverty, I’m happy to tell you about how hard it was for my single mom and me when I was growing up — and it wasn’t in tony *Westchester,*” Loesch tweeted to Ocasio-Cortez.

Ocasio-Cortez fired back in a childish condescending manner, like most liberals do whose feelings get hurt by free speech, and acted like she knew how defunding things works. You know a person has lost a debate when they begin to personally attack the opposition. She went on to call Loesch a life and a bad spokeswoman.

Loesch shot right back that no, she is not a spokeswoman for anyone but herself and that supporting a budget cut when the crime had increased before the defunding makes no logical sense whatsoever. NYPD retirement filings have exploded by 41% and it has everything to do with the way liberals are portraying the police departments. Spewing attacks that every police officer is racist and doesn’t want to protect their communities. Quite a shame.

Loesch’s last remark was enough to stray Ocasio-Cortez away from the argument, which was best for her sake, since her foolish and dangerous remarks are labeling her as nothing more than an irresponsible lawmaker.

“I’m also fascinated by the casual acceptance of her absolutely classist argument on poverty being inextricably linked to crime. Easy for a limousine liberal to make such a ridiculous argument as a deflection for her and her party’s bad policy, but not as easy to prove it,” Loesch tweeted to Ocasio-Cortez.

It’s a shame to see wealthy liberals support such a terrible cause for the American people. Of course they don’t care if police departments are stripped away and defunded entirely. They are protected by their taxpayer-funded security and private properties, away from the average citizens who won’t find help when they need it most. If we’ve learned anything from Epstein, it’s that despicable crimes are not only correlated to people in poverty. In most cases, they are actually related to the most wealthy, powerful, and privileged people. It’s time for Ocasio-Cortez to go back to Brown and learn a thing or two.
